Ashland Mass Dairy Queen

The Dairy Queen has been in Ashland, MA on Route 135 as long as I can remember.
Next year 2014 it will be moving to Route 126.

The Ashland Technology Center employees will certainly miss being able to walk across the street for lunch.  They closed, I believe at this location on Sunday, November
10, 2013.

used to be Mammoth Mart and Fernandes Plaza

What used to be the plaza where Mammoth Mart/Mammoth Mills used to be and Fernandes Supermarket on Pond St., Ashland.
Now, there is Big Lots and Market Basket.

On a recent grocery shopping trip I took a picture of the sign at the plaza entrance for out of towners.  Guess what I found, another phone booth beside Market Basket.

And the tree on Fruit St., which used to be so beautiful in the fall arching over the street.

for Chucky ~ Walker Field, Ashland High School, Ashland, Mass

For Chucky,

Until someone can find photos of actual football players playing a night game, I went down to the High School
to take pictures of the field for you.  The lights are still there.  I had not been there in quite a while, but I couldn't find the track.

Cliff Wilson's Paintings

I went to the Ashland Farmer's Market today.  There were so many people there, I was glad to see
the supporters of local businesses.  I saw Cliff Wilson who paints these beautiful paintings of Ashland landmarks, historic places and buildings.  He graciously allowed me to take a photo of him with the collection on display in the booth. If you haven't been to the Farmer's Market yet, I encourage you to check it out.  I was pleasantly surprised.

Proceeds from the print sales go to the Ashland Historical Society.  I bought my print of St. Cecilia's Grotto. I'll have to go back next weekend as I think I really want the one of Tasty Treat. (Note-booth will not be back until August)  I may also have to get one of those Ashland books, as I misplaced mine and there is a picture of my Mom in there.  Also have to go get some fresh dill from one of the farm stands.

If you are from out of town and are unable to visit the market and would like any of the prints, just email
Ashlandhistsoc@msn.com

Fruit St., Ashland, MA circa 1970's in the Fall

Fall foliage on Fruit St., Ashland, MA
Photo taken approximately 1973.  Taken by me in my 'photography' days
after learning via a class at Ashland High School.

I hope to take a photo of this same area this weekend, in the summer of 2012.

Howard Johnson's

Howard Johnson's swizzle stick. I remember the old Howard Johnson's in Framingham, MA.
I think they were still operating into the mid eighties or so.  Anybody know anything about when it actually closed?

Ashland, MA Telephone Booth

Maybe the last phone booth in Ashland, MA
This is located on the corner of Main and Summer St., at the Ashland Post Office.
Needed to capture this as Steve Leacu mentioned it might be the only one left in Ashland.
